Itinerary
Johannesburg – Panorama Route – Blyde River Canyon – Kruger National Park – Swaziland – Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve – Durban – Port Elizabeth – Tsitsikamma National Park – Garden Route – Cango Caves – Ostrich Farm – Cape Peninsula – Winelands – Cape Town.


 
Day 1
Johannesburg - Panorama Route – Blyde River Canyon
Our round trip starts at 07h00 from your accommodation in Johannesburg or from JHB International Airport. After you have met your tour guide we drive via Dullstroom and Lydenburg to the historical mining town Pilgrims Rest. We will stroll through the town and thereafter we head for the forestry village Graskop. The Panorama Route leads us to the Bourke’s Luck Potholes, which were formed by stones swirling around the current where the Blyde and Treur river meet. Thereafter we stop at the spectacular Blyde River Canyon with the “Three Rondavels”. The view over ca. 800 m gorge is breathtaking.

Day 2
Kruger National Park
After breakfast we shall drive into the world famous Kruger National Park. On our way to the camp we might encounter impalas, zebras, giraffes and elephants.

Day 3
Kruger National Park
With sunrise we will leave our camp and go on a game drive to look out for waterbucks, buffaloes, hippos and with a little bit of luck we might see lions, leopards and cheetahs.

Day 4
Kingdom of Swaziland
In the morning we will leave the Kruger National Park via the Malelane gate and drive to the Kingdom of Swaziland, known as “Little Switzerland”. This landscape reminds us of this country due to its beautiful mountains and forests. Along the way we visit a glass factory, craft stalls along the road and we will drive through the capital Mbabane, then into the Ezulwini Valley where we will stay overnight.

Day 5
Kingdom of Swaziland – St.Lucia – Umfolozi Game Reserve
In the morning we visit a candle factory and a local market before we leave Swaziland, travelling through endless sugar plantations via Pongola towards St.Lucia. Depending on the weather we might join a boat tour on the estuary, watching hippos, crocodiles and a myriad of seabirds or we visit a croc farm. We might spend a few hours looking for rhinos in the nearby Umfolozi Game Reserve or have a leisurely few hours on the beach.

Day 6
Ballito Bay (or nearby) - Durban area
Upon our arrival in/near Durban we will either start a city tour and visit the Indian Market or spend a few leisurly hours at a beach. We might visit the Shark Board HQ and view a dissection (if available) or visit the new aquarium or decide on any other of the many activities available in this main tourist area.

Day 7
Durban – Port Elizabeth – Tsitsikamma National Park
In the morning we will drive to the airport in Durban in order to fly to Port Elizabeth (flight not incl. in price). Upon arrival we head for the Tsitsikamma National Park where we can hike through the forest. On our way we will have breathtaking views of the ocean, cliffs and the forest.

Day 8
Tsitsikamma National Park – Garden Route
On our way to Knysna we will pass long white sand beaches and forests with yellowwood trees. We drive via the Bloukrans Pass, Nature’s Valley to Plettenberg Bay, where we can take a stroll in the Robberg Nature Reserve – a rocky peninsula that stretches into the sea. Thereafter we will drive to Knysna.

Day 9
Garden Route
Today a ferry will take us to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. We will drive up into the Reserve on an Unimog. We will stop at a scenic lookout point where we have magnificent views over Knysna and the Indian ocean. We will walk back on the 2.2 km Bushbuck Trail, into caves and along the cliffs. Thereafter we can have lunch in the forest under Milkwood trees (own expense) before we return to Knysna. The afternoon is at leisure (i.e. stroll through the city or the Knysna Waterfront).

Day 10
Garden Route - Cango Caves – Ostrich Farm - Oudtshoorn
After breakfast we will drive in the direction of George. In Wilderness we will make a short stop to enjoy the beautiful view over the long white sand beaches. We continue via the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn. Here we will visit the impressive Cango Caves before we head for an ostrich farm where you may want to enjoy a ride on an ostrich.

Day 11
Oudtshoorn – Cape Town
We drive via the Robinson Pass to Mossel Bay where we will visit the 500 years old Post Office Tree. We continue via the historical town of Swellendam and the Sir Lowry’s Pass to Cape Town where we stay overnight. (B+B)
 
Day 12
Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens – Cape Peninsula – City Tour-Top of Table Mountain-Malay Quarters
We visit the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens directly at the foot of Table Mountain where we will admire the huge diversity of plants. Afterwards we drive to Simonstown where we visit a penguin colony. We continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve where we will have breathtaking views over the ocean. On our way back we drive via the famous Chapman’s Peak Drive (if not closed) where we will enjoy the sunset and the magnificent view over the bay of Hout Bay.

Day 13
Winelands Stellenbosch and Franschhoek
Weather permitting we shall take the cable car up Table Mountain (not included in the price). From the top we have a beautiful view over Cape Town’s harbour, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill and the 12 Apostles. AIf favourable weather you may even see Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent many years in captivity. Thereafter we drive to Stellenbosch and visit a wine farm including a cellar and wine tasting tour. We return to Cape Town via Franschhoek.

Day 14
Victoria & Alfred Waterfront
Today we will visit the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Here we will find a flea market, an oceanarium and the IMAX theater with impressive films of Africa. Furthermore there are many restaurants and shops to chose from. The tour ends in the afternoon in Cape Town or at Cape Town International Airport.
